Rural Youth Employment Opportunities: Support to Integrated Agribusiness Hubs in Nigeria

The Integrated Agribusiness Hub is a five-year project funded by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) in collaboration with GIZ and it is geared towards empowering African youth through the establishment of a network of youth-centered Agribusiness Hubs across Africa. The project will help thousands of young people (3,400) access employment (70%) and entrepreneurship opportunities (30%) in the fast-growing horticulture, aquaculture, poultry, cassava, maize, livestock production and other agricultural processing sectors in Nigeria.

Year 1 of this project is devoted to the planning and establishment of an Integrated Agribusiness Hub in Nigeria in two strategic locations, Oyo and Imo state.

The Rural Community Development Center in Awe, Oyo state has been identified as the potential site for hub establishment through upgrade and expansion of existing facilities and agribusiness activities. These activities will also be co-supported with the presence of Songhai in Iwo.

The first cohort training of 140 youths will take place in Year 1 with selection and mobilization of youths with emphasis on Oyo state unemployed residential and indigenous youths between 18 to 35.

Year 2 to 5 is meant for management and expansion of agribusiness hubs activities in selected locations.
